Ocotillo

Tall, whip-like canes reaching skyward — leafless most of the year, then suddenly alive with scarlet blooms after rain. One of the desert's most distinctive and dramatic silhouettes.

The Story Behind the Design

A landscape unlike
any other on earth.

The Sonoran Desert covers roughly a hundred thousand square miles across southwestern Arizona, southeastern California, and northwestern Mexico. It is the hottest desert in North America, and the most biologically diverse. It is also one of the most immediately recognizable landscapes anywhere — you know it the moment you see it.

The Desert Story band renders that landscape in continuous panorama — the full scene running around the entire circumference of the band without interruption. Mountains, saguaro, ocotillo, yucca — each element meticulously rendered, the oxidized sterling providing depth and shadow, the 14K gold catching the light the way sunbaked rock does.
