Three decades of work.
Not one piece the same.

Michael Rogers founded M. M. Rogers Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1990, rooted in the traditional jewelry arts of the American West. The methods and processes used at the bench are centuries old at their foundation — but Michael has never limited himself to any single technique or tool. Hand fabrication, casting, engraving — every process is fair game when the work demands it.

In September 2020, the studio relocated to San Leon, Texas on the Gulf Coast, where Michael continues to work the way he always has: one piece at a time, made to order, with the same care and attention that has defined his work since the beginning.

The American West isn't just an aesthetic influence — it's the foundation every design is built on. The landscape, the ancient cultures, the enduring traditions of the region are woven into every motif, every line, every piece that leaves the studio.

It often happens that even when I have a concept of what I want to create, it ends up taking on a life of its own. Not infrequently, I end up on a completely different path — working in a creative stream of consciousness.

Michael M. Rogers · On the creative process

From the first mark
to the finished piece.

Every M. M. Rogers design begins with pencil and paper — or more recently, an iPad and Procreate, or a clean screen in Illustrator. The idea comes first. The medium is whatever the moment calls for. What follows is never entirely predictable, and that's precisely the point.

01
The Idea

It starts with a feeling, a reference, a memory, or simply a mark on a clean canvas. Sometimes the concept is clear from the first line. More often it reveals itself along the way.

02
The Rendering

Drawings — finished and process work both — are how ideas become designs. Michael works back and forth between renderings and metalwork at the bench, exploring ideas, processes, and techniques as they develop.

03
The Bench

Sterling silver and 14K gold worked with an extraordinary array of custom and traditional tools — hand fabrication, casting, engraving, whatever the piece demands. Every tool is valuable. Every technique is fair game. Three decades of practice means knowing which to reach for.

04
The Finished Work

One thing invariably leads to the next, and eventually culminates in a finished piece. Each one made to order for a specific person, ready to ship within 3 to 4 weeks of your order.

An archive reaching back
to the early 1980s.

Michael has kept an archive of his work since he first started recording what he considered his best ideas — drawings both finished and in-process, sometimes simply a doodle he wanted to go back and explore. Decades of creative inventory, accumulated over a lifetime of looking, making, and thinking.

That archive is the foundation everything is built on. Not as a source of nostalgia, but as a working resource — ideas that were ahead of their time, designs that never quite resolved, paths not yet taken. The work of today is in direct conversation with everything that came before it.

There's no better feeling than creating something that
communicates directly to others.

Every piece of jewelry has a story, tells a story, or is a story yet to be told. Whatever the purchase price, it is the human connection that defines true value. The moment a piece is given or received — the moment someone discovers that one special piece — something magical happens. In an instant, a bond is created, a friendship affirmed, a loved one honored, a memory fixed in time.

That's what really drives this work. Not the technical mastery — though that matters enormously — and not the materials, as beautiful as they are. It's the moment when something made by hand in a studio in San Leon, Texas ends up on someone's finger in a way that enriches their life and engages them. That's when the work hits the right spot.

Fashioning jewelry by hand with an amazing array of custom and traditional tools, using earth-friendly techniques and environmentally responsible practices — this has been central to the studio's philosophy from day one. Not as a marketing position, but as a genuine commitment to how things ought to be made.

"I love creating, and never feel more in my element than when I'm working on something new, or exploring an idea."
